A good label supports the big idea of the exhibition and also stands alone as something enjoyable to read. It is clear and concise—no longer than it needs to be. It refers to what visitors are looking at or experiencing. And it answers the questions visitors actually have, which we know because we've talked to those visitors.
After 30 years in the museum field—as exhibition developer, interpretive planner, researcher, label writer and evaluator—Katherine has turned her full attention to writing exhibit labels. For her, this is the most fun, engaging and rewarding part of the exhibit process.
Katherine co-authored the 3rd edition of Beverly Serrell's Exhibit Labels: An Interpretive Approach (2024) which cemented her enthusiasm for label writing.
